Curious

Nothing like starting off a semester with a bang but I wanted to post this article and get your feedback. I am interested in the feelings of the Millenial Generation when it comes to the issue of gay rights. Does this generation care? What does this say about the Obama Administration when supporters are even disappointed (or disgusted) with his stance on this issue? Any feelings? Be mindful as you reply but be honest.

  2. I think my generation can give off a "yeah, whatever, I don't care" attitude about gay rights, BUT, what I think we REALLY feel is a "why is it a big deal" type attitude (which could be interpreted in different ways). From most people I've talked to, the feeling is that gay or straight, we're all human. I believe the only reason the millinial generation is viewed as "lazy" is because the majority of us don't see much difference between gay, straigh, black, white, ect. We are all people, and we are all human.

  3. Good post Abby. I think other generations mistake your tolerance for laziness. I think the Millennials do care but can't understand what the big deal is with accepting people who do not conform to social norms.

  4. I was completely ignorant to the "HIV Stamp." It is unfair to get rid of people who have basically been given a death sentence with their disease. I totally agree with Abby on why our generation is the way it is. Most people I know have grown up in diverse areas where there are people from all over the racial, religous, and sexual orientation spectrums. It is not a big deal to us because we are used to it and it's not change. The older generations are throwing a fit because it's different to them and let's be honest, old people do not like change! It might sound a bit like a sweeping generalization of old people perhaps, but I think it is the norm.

There is one issue when it comes to gay rights that I think should be put on hold and it is gays in the military. Personally, I have no problem with it BUT I do not think our nation is ready. My reasoning is that there are far too many rascist rednecks in the military who I came across who would gladly go "gay bashing." I honestly fear for gay peoples safety and think that this should be addressed after gays have received full rights. Light it simmer a while and it will happen before 2020.
